Next up are the three larger vacuums - the CT 26, CT 36, and the CT 48. However, I think that it is a good idea to try to collect the dust close to the blade on top and bottom and to use a vacuum equipped with a HEPA filter. While I have the Festool CT26, I know that it is expensive. With a HEPA filter, you should not be putting the small dust back into the air. There are some other vacuums out there that you can put a HEPA filter on and greatly improve the performance. This small dust will hang in the air for very long periods of time and you will end up breathing it. One of the problems with a scroll saw is that it can produce very fine dust. With some woods, I am not as worried about it, but with some of the exotics, I will keep the pickup as close as possible. I think that when trying to collect the dust off the top of the table, it is a trade off between having the pickup in your way at times and getting the dust. In all dust collection, the closer you are to the source the better the dust collection. The vacuum and use on a scroll saw is interesting. If I had a ceramic floor, I would try using one of the soft floor mats under it. Of course, having them on a ceramic floor is going to make the sound worse as everything will be reflected. What I measured was about a 10 db difference in my shop which is about twice as loud. I also looked online at what others had found for vacuums and the mid 80 I also looked at the frequency distribution on a phone app and they were similar for both but the Craftsman was louder all across the spectrum.
